About Reading Roars!

Put simply, Reading Roars! is a blog about Reading.  That is, Reading the town in the South East of England, rather than the information-gathering activity.

I started the blog in July 2005 because I felt that Reading, my hometown, was becoming increasingly interesting.  The Oracle was built, the town’s football team was making excellent progress, streets were pedestrianised, bars were booming and new business parks were opening.

I felt an urge to comment on all of this, especially as it seemed that the town was perceived somewhat negatively by outsiders.  The town may not be all that pretty, but we have much to be proud of.

The blog name Reading Roars! may seem unusual. I chose it for 3 reasons:

  • The Forbury Lion is an unoffical symbol of the town
  • Reading is the roaring hub of the Thames Valley
  • Alliteration
  • I couldn’t think of a more suitable alternative at the time.
