An arresting sight

Reading Station Platform 8 defibrillatorEarly this evening, I was waiting on Platform 8 at Reading Station for the train to Tilehurst. Not only was the train delayed (it eventually arrived 11 minutes later) but the monitor display kept rolling upwards manically. The devil was at work here.

My blood pressure was rising (trains make me tetchy), so it was reassuring to see the notice behind me reading:

This De-Fibrilator (sic) is out of use
The nearest one can be found on platform 9. Use the stairs/escalators and turn left. As you come down platform 9 stairs turn left. The de-fib is on the left hand side wall.

So the message is clear: if you’re going to go into cardiac arrest, make sure you aren’t on Platform 8 (or, God forbid, Platform 7) first. Especially if there is a crowd pushing their way up the Platform 9 single flight of stairs, as is quite normal during rush hour.
