New sushi bar: One o eight, one o eight
Further to my recent post about Reading’s new sushi bar, complete with conveyor belt, I now know its name: one o eight.
The photo seen here was sent to me by Reading 107 FM’s Joff Hopkins, who observes:
They’ve missed a trick with the name… thinking of the possibilities of teaming up with the local radio station!
Thanks Joff! I can see it now: “Top tunas to get you through your lunch hour”. Or “That was ‘Kiss Them for Me’, by Sushi and the Banshees”.

I ate at One O Eight last night and found the sushi very basic, the rice was very soggy, the octopus very dry! My partner complained to the waitress that the chicken yakatori was cold in the middle to which she replied “oh that’s because it’s been on the conveyor belt for a while” eventhough I had just watched the chef bring it out a few minutes before, the waitress didn’t take the half eaten chicken away or take the cost off the bill! Once we got home about 10mins from leaving the restaurant my partner was instanly very sick, I called One O Eight and and was kept waiting fro 5minutes to speak with the manager, once the manager came on the phone I started to explain the problem and half way through he said “oh sorry can you just hold for a sec I need to give a customer their change”, I found this bad management and damn right rude! After explainingwhat had happened he just said “Oh sorry I will speak to the chef but other than that was the food ok?” to which I replied no not really very basic, he then said “yeah but ok for the money” which left me feeling that if you pay for cheap sushi it’s ok to get awful food which is guaranteed to give you food poisoning! If you’re a Sushi lover give this place a wide berth!!
